same issue.
I don't understand why is it so hard for Asus to design laptops and motherboards without coil whines. Do they think including a screaming banshee with their product is a feature? It's poor engineering.
The fan doesn't spin and it just sits there can go into bios nothing.
I have the same one and just today after installing a ssd it stopped working.
Does not this issue can be solved in any way?
My ASUS FX553VD (it's basically a GL553vd, built cheaper for some markets) makes annoying coal whine, especially when charging. I've had this laptop for 2 years and I can hear the noise since about 6 months ago. My warranty has ended. What do I do? Is it some problem to be addressed? is it dangerous to my laptop? Is there a fix, rather than changing the whole laptop??
RAM is upgradable or not ?
I have the same version but with the i7-8550u and with 16gb ram and a 512gb m.2 SSD, according to some websites I've gone through its the SanDisk m.2 SSD that's making this noise… its kinda funny since its an SSD but its a great laptop which I've been using for more than a year!
I bought an UX430UA (14" ZenBook) one year ago (Netherlands/Europe), had the same issue (coil whine), mainly when connected with the wall plug. ASUS helpdesk recommended a bios update which solved the issue for me. Based on my good experience with this machine I ordered an UX433UA (the new 14" ZenBook) for my wife and received it today. Coil whine again. Contacted the ASUS helpdesk and expected the same kind of solution. But no, no solution and I talked to a helpdesk agent who seemed to be somewhat surprised about my previous UX430UA experience. So I am quite disappointed right now.
Just got myself a Zenbook S13 and i have no problems whats so ever with it. When the fans stop, it makes zero noise.
Acer swift 3 has the same….
Would the coil whine affect how long the laptop will last for? I’m a first year student, I got one of these (UX430UA if that makes a difference) and I need something that’ll last for the next 4 years or so. Also, does the base 1 year manufacturing warranty cover the coil whine issue if I were to get it? Thanks
why would coil whine be only on this unit and not others with the same CPU and other componentry – doesnt make sense
Really helpful. I found one for 400 and I thought it was a deal. This doesnt even have a true IPS? Can you answer?
Geesh! I was about to purchase this right now… until I read the comments on Amazon. I will no spend $1300 for a crying laptop!
Same shit on my ux430uq i7 7500u.
I feel most of your are much too young to remember the days of laptops with spinning hard drives and loud fans. 😉 Sure there is a little coil wine it's necessary to provide the correct current for the CPU+GPU in such a thin device. Read about induction coils and understand what there purpose is… This laptop is quiet compared to any laptop for a half decade ago. The ones that returned have missed out on an excellent laptop in my opinion.
Reduce the processor power from 100 to 30 or 40 or 50 …
Trust me ! It works.

Bought the Zenbook UX433FN yesterday, returned it today because of the coil whine.
yup i got one of these asus ux430un gv122r 8th gen i5 8250u. I've just gone through all the reviews on youtube regarding this model and most have mentioned coil whine. I have none whatsoever…not arguing or complaining about the other reviews but my experience has been nothing but great. I have yet to try the lower end gaming but from what I've seen it should keep me occupied while I'm away from home. Not sure if it's a difference between an Australian release and a US/Canada release issue…Either way I'm quite happy with it's performance using the wifi, bluetooth, usb c, hdmi connectivity and the screen brightness is excellent (as most reviews indicate) so, I guess if you want a gaming laptop, don't get a xenbook, it aint what theyre designed for…if you want to do serious graphic work where colour needs to be close to 100%, then dont get a xenbook…if you want a great ultra portable, reasonable bang for your buck, 8hr avg battery life – get this one. The ssd is a bit smaller than I'd like at 256gb but hey, swap it out for a bigger one if size matters to you. All in all, I really like this machines packaged components and performance. I've been running my IT business for over 18yrs and I've always suggested to customers to buy something that is fit for purpose. So I'm not shooting down any reviews of this model in any way as I think a true report on the model you unbox is important. I just thought I'd share my experience with you as well.
GL503GE-RS71, i7-8750H, GTX 1050 Ti. Awful coil whine.. truly awful
Same problem with the Zenbook 14 UX433F
here https://www.ultrabookreview.com/19141-asus-zenbook-ux430un-review/ it says you can get rid of the coil whine by changing the default ssd (if true, i will not buy asus again if they saved a few bucks on a crappy ssd that makes noise, if you succesfully removed the noise by changing the ssd please share here)
Я ЗА АСУС😻😻😻😻😻😻😻😻😻
Isn't it the fact that most ultrabooks tend to coil whine? For work I got a Lenovo T470s and it coil whines at the bottom. For private things I own a Dell XPS 15 9570 and it coil whines at boot up. A lot of coil whine can come from the ssd. Have an external one the makes noises as well.
it's the ssd
Same problem. Thought I could avoid it. Have had 2 and they both had severe whine at all times
Disaster, the coil sound sucks
Have the same with MacBook Pro 2018!
Same thing with my Asus GL503GE
Same problem with my brand new Asus Vivobook s15 s530un. I've monitored it down to the CPU working hard. The fan also kicks in, but it is only "hard fanning", so it is not the culprit. I've monitored also with the task manager running to be sure of various factors
Literally I have the same model laptop and I do not hear any coil whine noise. The fans gets on and off occasionally when Antivirus runs in the background beside that I do not hear any other kind of noise. Very good laptop indeed.
Same probably with the 7th gen. Wlso my display freaked out after a year and then the backlight and now webcam. My laptop came a little crooked tho
Yo I purchased an Acer Aspire A515-51G-55W9 a week ago and just today there is a very soft electric noise when I am scrolling trough a page or when something is loading, when I am just scrolling on a blank page or on desktop, no noise but when I scroll and new things pop up (so the CPU has to load new things), I do hear the noise. Can someone help me out because I didn't have this noise the past week and it is brand new so nothing should be worn out. Pls it is very annoying and only a very soft noise but it is definitely hearable.
