Dell XPS 13 (9360, Kaby Lake) Review – Still the Laptop to Beat?

Lisa Gade reviews the 3rd generation Dell XPS 13 model 9360, a 13.3” Ultrabook with Infinity Display (barely there bezels) and the footprint of a 12” laptop, refreshed in late 2016 with Intel 7th generation dual core Kaby Lake CPUs. The XPS 13 weighs just 2.7 to 2.9 lbs. (1.22 to 1.31 kg) and it has a classy unibody aluminum design with soft touch carbon fiber patterned interior. Thanks to Braintree for supporting our channel. To learn more, go to .

The laptop starts at $799, but nicely configured models typically cost over $1,000. A backlit keyboard and Killer 1535AC WiFi are standard.
It’s available with full HD non-touch and QHD+ 3200 x 1800 gloss touch screens, up to 16 gigs of RAM and a variety of M.2 PCIe SSDs. Since its introduction in early 2015, the Dell XPS 13 has been the laptop to beat if you wanted a conventionally designed laptop (rather than a convertible). Is that still the case? Watch the video and decide.

Hi! My XPS model maxes out at 1080p (Core i5 7200U) but I'm thinking of buying a 4k secondary monitor to connect it there via USB-C thunderbolt. Will it be able to output 4k there and also will I be able to make the icons smaller than how they appear in the main screen?

Hello. I am planning to buy a laptop. I was thinking of Dell XPS 13 9360 model. But I did a bit of research, I found that, this laptop gets hot quickly. I will use mainly my laptop in website coding, a bit of writing, web surfing and watching video. The only big applications will be Android Studio and Photoshop. And I use to work putting my laptop on my lap.So I want a laptop with minimal heating issue. Should I go for Dell or I will buy MacBook air?

Lisa, you are incredible.  Straight forward but still having personality, your reviews helped make it simple to decide.  I am going with the XPS 13 for my sales reps.

What the hell is coil whine? I've had this laptop since it was first released in early 2015. I remember because I was in college when I bought it. Anyway, it's dead silent. I don't know what everyone is talking about. On another note, this is by far the best and most versatile piece of computing equipment I have ever used. I recommend it to everyone.

UNLESS IT'S USING WINDOWS 10! Fuck that OS. Luckily, I still have 8.1 modified to look like 7.

you can actually order a finger print sensor for 20$, just not really common to get one in a retail version not customized in the dell eshop

Have you checked out the Asus Zenbook 3 Deluxe?

Trying to decide between the Asus Zenbook 3 Deluxe or Dell XPS 13 for photo editing on the go?

Both with i7, 16gb RAM and 512gb SSD.

Struggling to make a choice between the two.

    Pros of the Zenbook
    – Read/write speeds of the SSD faster than the Dell
    – It’s a lighter laptop
    – Bigger screen
    – Comes with additional USB C dongles in the box (but doesn't have standard USB to plug a mouse dongle in)

     Pros of the Dell
    – Top spec screen is higher res than the Zenbook (3200×1800 vs 1920×1080) (glossy screen may be worse than matte)
    – Brighter screen
    – Battery life is a lot better

     Someone please help me decide!!!

    Thanks for the great review.
I watch reviews again and again of the XPS 13 and people saying that it's great. But I think it does not do as good as the MacBook pro…
I'm not at all into Apple (obviously this is why I'm looking for a Windows based OS competitor) but I don't find any product that matches it…. I use a MacBook Pro at work (I don't have the choice) so I know what I'm talking about. Hopefully Dell or Any other company really will release a solid competitor. Dell XPS seems to be the closest from the quality of a MacBook, but somethings…wrong. I can't really tell why but I'm not convinces.
I guess, I'll stick on my crippled inspiron for the time being…

So I'm stuck between whether or not to get the QHD display or the FHD display. Will the FHD display get better performance due to the processor and graphics not having to control so many pixels or is the performance difference minimal? Price is not an issue as it is only a $70 difference for me.

Regarding your review and the touchpad and keyboard:
    1) Touchpad
A 10 year old Macbook Touchpad is WAY better.
    2) Keyboard
"… a good keyboard…"??? What makes you think that? I think its total crap. It's again one of those obsession to make everything smaller. Smaller per se is not the problem, but when it ends up in such a keyboard this is only worth to throw in the garbage.
For people who hardly use the keyboard, ok, fine. But for people who actually type text and even if it's only an email longer than a few lines. My fingers FREAK OUT because of that butt feeling like I had gout.

Again, you said in the past you love dell keyboard and then you say you don't like them too much.  You are very articulate and precise in your reviews, but you contradict yourself a lot.  If it is a particular model keyboard you have some problems with you should specify but you continue to generalize about liking and not liking Dell keyboards, STOP IT!!!
